1. Ethos

We believe that school English trips are not only about visiting England and experiencing its rich culture, but most importantly about giving young people the chance to get inside that culture by making friends with English people of their own age.  With this in mind, our tailor-made English Immersion Trip to Worthing, England is a perfect combination of cultural, linguistic and inspiring excursions and activities which take place with a group of enthusiastic English students.

2. Why run a school English Trip?

A well run and enjoyable school trip is often the most significant memory that a student takes with them from their time at school.  It is often a first time experience of being away from home and away from parents.  Students develop a vast range of skills beyond those of linguistic and cultural knowledge.  They learn to be more responsible, organised and communicative while learning to be a respected member of a team and helping others to work well in that team.  They develop a curious and respectful nature about the world around them and become inspired to learn and be more.  Furthermore, the students’ confidence when speaking English grows enormously and will help them with their studies at school.  Also, a school which organises such exciting and educational trips attracts the attention of parents when they are deciding which school to send their child to.

3. Ideal location, Worthing, South Coast, England

Worthing is situated on the South Coast of England an hour from Gatwick Airport and an hour and a quarter from London.  It is a town of 103,200 inhabitants so it’s big enough to be interesting but also small enough to feel welcomed and at home there within a very short amount of time.  Worthing offers everything – the beach, countryside (The South Downs National Park) and big cities surrounding it like Brighton, Chichester, Portsmouth and London.  It is possible to visit any of these places during your visit.

4. Interaction with English teenagers

Your school will be paired up with a school within the local area of Worthing and the host families and Junior Euro Reps (English students participating in the activities) will come from this school.  Suzie Comben, Head of Languages at Davison High School in Worthing, organises the time that your students spend in the English school and also chooses the most motivated and enthusiastic English students to welcome and look after your students.  Usually, your students spend three to four mornings in school to see what an English school is like and to work on bilingual projects with the English students.  This is an ideal chance for everyone to practise their language skills while finding out about each other’s culture.  The English students also take part in some of the activities and excursions, many of which have a competitive nature about them to encourage the young people to work together for a common goal.  Friendships are often made that last far longer than the trip itself!

5. The Programme

Below is an example programme.  Suzie Comben and Tom Price know the area very well so if you would like to change any of the activities, please do not hesitate to ask.  There is always someone on hand during your visit to answer any questions that you might have.

6. Travel

The Combination School package includes everything, including the coach transfer from your school to the airport.  Once in England the group travels to Worthing either by coach or train depending on the number of students.  All coaches have seatbelts and are of a high quality. The price includes hand luggage (10kg) and one checked-in baggage (20kg) per person. Travel within the local area is usually by train.

7. Accommodation

Your students stay in host families.  These families come from the Host School and are chosen because they would like to look after and get to know a young person from another country and because they have someone of approximately the same age as the foreign student in the family.  This way the young people can practise their language skills and make friends.  The families live near to the school and come to school each day with the English student.  The Host Family provides all meals (lunch is usually a packed lunch) and dinner is eaten together in the evening around 1800/1900.  In England the biggest meal of the day is in the evening.  Accompanying teachers can either stay together with one family or in separate host families.

8. Activities

We take great care when planning the activities so that all students learn as much as possible about the English language and culture.  There is so much in just a week; visits to cities like London and Brighton, a visit to Lewes Castle and a mixture of fun, educational and sporting activities.  We design the bilingual activities with the English students in a way that encourages everyone to use the language – we organise small groups and most of the activities are competitions so that the groups need to work together.  It really is the best way to learn English – having fun with young English people!

9. The Price and what it includes (EVERYTHING!)

The price includes everything – the flights, transfers, transport within the area, accommodation, food, activities and insurance.  The students and teachers do not have to pay for anything – apart from maybe some souvenirs or an ice cream!

To conclude, we are passionate about offering reasonably priced school trips with a difference.  We have seen first-hand the excitement and motivation that the mix of students from two different countries makes and we would love to take care of your school trip.
